What is a Cesspit?
A sealed, waterproof tank buried in the ground that simply collects raw sewage — there's no treatment happening on site. It has a single manhole for access and must be emptied regularly, since nothing breaks down or drains away.

- Collects raw sewage without separating solid and liquid waste.
- Provides no treatment of the waste — it simply holds it.
- Operates without electricity.
- Fully sealed, with no drainage or discharge to the ground.
- Requires much more frequent emptying than a septic tank or treatment plant.
- Cannot discharge into rivers, streams, or other watercourses.
What is a Septic Tank?
A simple system that separates solid waste from liquid waste. The solids settle at the bottom of the tank, while the liquid flows into a drainage field for further natural treatment in the ground. The tank itself does not treat the wastewater, so the discharged effluent is of relatively low quality.

What is a Waste Treatment Plant?
A more advanced system that not only separates waste but also actively treats the wastewater. It uses mechanical components and oxygen to encourage aerobic bacteria to break down organic matter, producing a much cleaner effluent. Some treatment plants use aeration technology, such as air blowers, to increase oxygen levels and improve the treatment process.
